the process

  • I have a bad tendency to overanalyze and lock up prior to executing even my best ideas (at least I think they are).
  • This process will describe how I've planned going about getting past this, and putting care where it's actually important.

tldr

  • Pretty self-explanatory, but it will become less tldr, more correction to the initial stage of thought development (more below), as perspective becomes more complete.

start; I know nothing (or what I do know is incorrect) anecdotal stage

  • This is going to be the section I come back to further down the road, and laugh at.
  • USE AT OWN RISK section:
    • I tend towards optimism. I feel it's brilliant, before really thinking it through, then I dwell (sometimes for months); then I...

act

  • Before you give me the advice, I know it is way more effective to study and research things before pulling the trigger (sorry for the trigger, if so).
  • You'll find by reading some of what I put out though, I wouldn't necessarily reach many of the half-truths I have found if I went about it in a different order. Two points:
  1. I would just talk myself out of it.
  2. I enjoy the creative aspect of leaning on what I have already, then reading up on what others have come up with and having that Aha! moment.
  • I don't do this with absolutely everything; extenuating factors: safety, expense, and admittedly, sometimes embarrassment (working on that).

observations - initial

  • Pretty self-explanatory, but often gets a chuckle.

the gathering (research)

  • The dichotomy here is that although it's going to be predominantly contemporary knowledge, quite often, as soon as ideas are put to paper, it is often old chaff.
  • This leads into the final stage below.

observations - post-research

  • Again, pretty straightforward, but possibly more effective at this stage, or perhaps off-putting.

subject matter expert - beyond contemporary knowledge?

  • Let's say that in the research stage, I ask the question, "My face blows up every time I go for a run." More of a statement really; and like really blows up, anaphylaxis I think they call it.
    • WebMD, or my Allergist is going to have a very different perspective than say, a Naturopath expert.
    • Not to say one is any more right than the other, and I can only report my experiences; which are likely to be only one point under a very large bell.
  • This could take many forms:
    • SMEs from various disciplines hashing it out.
    • Single SME compounding or detracting contemporary thought.
    • No SME on the basis that I don't have an audience/following (sad).

That's it. In line with the spirit that started Thumbs and Thought, challenging the narrative first through self-thought, second through contemporary thought, and lastly from the perspective of where we might be going, thought.
